How to Measure for the Call Size of Exterior Out-Swing Doors

We carry several standard sizes for exterior out-swing doors. Before you order your door, it is very important to determine the "call size" of the door you will need. The call size is simply the width and height of the rough opening in the wall where the entire door (including the frame) will be installed. Here are the best ways to determine the call size without having to remove the door to get to the rough opening.

Method 1: The easiest way is to measure the width and height of the swing-out part of the door only (not including the frame) in its closed position from the outside of your home, and use these charts to determine the call size.

Method 2: You can also measure the entire door frame, (including the flange with the screw holes) from the outside of your home, and refer to the charts below to determine the call size.

How to Identify Left or Right Hinge: Look at the door from the outside of the home. The side with the hinges determines left or right. (Example: hinges on the right, right-hinged door)
