How to Measure for the Call Size of Steel Combination In-Swing Doors

We carry several standard sizes for doors. Before you order your door, it is very important to determine the "call size" of the door you will need. The call size is simply the width and height of the rough opening in the wall where the entire door (including jamb and frame) will be installed. Here are the best ways to determine the call size without having to remove the door to get to the rough opening.

Method 1: Measure the width and height of the swing-out storm door only from the outside of your home, and use the charts below to determine the call size.

Storm Door Width ► 29 7/8" 31 7/8" 33 7/8" 35 7/8"
Actual Call Size Width ► 32" 34" 36" 38"
Storm Door Height 75" 77" 79" 81"
Actual Call Size Height 76" 78" 80" 82"

Method 2: If no storm door exists, you can measure the inside swing door only, open or closed, from edge to edge, and use the charts below to determine the call size.

In-Swing Door Width 29 3/4" 31 3/4" 33 3/4" 35 3/4"
Actual Call Size Width 32" 34" 36" 38"
In-Swing Door Height 73 3/8" 75 3/8" 77 3/8" 79 3/8"
Actual Call Size Height 76" 78" 80" 82"

Method 3: You can also measure the inside jamb between the storm door and the in-swing door. Measure from side jamb to side jamb for the width, top jamb to the lowest part of the threshold for the height and refer to the charts below.

Jamb to Jamb Width 30 1/2" 32 1/2" 34 1/2" 36 1/2"
Actual Call Size Width 32" 34" 36" 38"
Jamb to Threshold Height 74 1/2" 76 1/2" 78 1/2" 80 1/2"
Actual Call Size Height 76" 78" 80" 82"

To be more certain about determining the call size, we recommended that you measure your existing door as many ways as possible. We will help you cross reference your measurements and determine the call size for your door.

Important: The measurements on this page correspond to the Phillips brand of doors, the only brand we carry. A Phillips door can, in most cases, replace another brand, but bear in mind your measurements may be different than those listed on this page. Please contact us with your measurements, and we will help you!

How to Identify Left or Right Hinge: Look at the door from the outside of the home. The side with the hinges determines left or right. (Example: hinges on the right, right-hinged door)
