How to Measure for the Call Size of Flush-Mount Storm Doors

Important Note: Flush-Mount Storm Doors and Jamb-Mount Storm Doors measure and mount differently. Please go here to see images of a Jamb-Mount Storm Door, to make the distinction between the two types.

We carry several standard sizes for flush-mount storm doors. Before you order your storm door, it is very important to determine the "call size" of the door you will need. The call size is simply the width and height of the rough opening in the wall where the flush-mount storm door will be installed. Here are the best ways to determine the call size without having to remove the door to get to the rough opening.

Method 1: Measure the width and height of the swing-out storm door only, and use these charts to determine the call size.

Storm Door Width ► 33 3/8" 35 3/8"
Actual Call Size Width ► 36" 38"
Storm Door Height 78 1/8" 80 1/8"
Actual Call Size Height 80" 82"

Method 2: You can also measure the entire frame of the flush-mount storm door, including the flange (which has the screw holes), and then refer to the charts below.
Entire Frame Width 35 1/4" 37 1/4"
Actual Call Size Width 36" 38"
Entire Frame Height 79 3/8" 81 3/8"
Actual Call Size Height 80" 82"

Method 3: You can also measure the frame, not including the flange, and refer to the charts below.

Frame w/out Flange Width 34 1/8" 36 1/8"
Actual Call Size Width 36" 38"
Frame w/out Flange Height 78 1/2" 80 1/2"
Actual Call Size Height 80" 82"

To be more certain about determining the call size, we recommended that you measure your existing door as many ways as possible. We will help you cross reference your measurements and determine the call size for your door.

Important: The measurements on this page correspond to the Phillips brand of doors, the only brand we carry. A Phillips door can in most cases replace another brand, but bear in mind your measurements may be different than those listed on this page. Please contact us with your measurements, and we will help you!

How to Identify Left or Right Hinge: Look at the door from the outside of the home. The side with the hinges determines left or right. (Example: hinges on the right, right-hinged door)
