R & G has to stand for something, right? It happens to be the initials of the founders and owners of our company, Roy and Georgia Bean. They started R & G Mobile Home Supply in an office trailer on a dealer lot in Grand Prairie, Texas in the fall of 1978. (Roy had previously worked for United Sales in Fort Worth and San Antonio throughout the 1970’s and Georgia had been a stay-at-home mom to three children.
In the beginning they sold and installed air conditioners. Roy worked with one pickup truck and Georgia held down the office. Soon after that they moved their operations to a small warehouse near the Wax Museum in Grand Prairie, and then to a slightly larger warehouse in Euless, Texas, to be closer to where they lived in Bedford. They stayed in this building throughout the 1980’s and employed 2 or 3 people to help with deliveries and steel skirting installation.
They moved into the Arrow Bolt warehouse in Euless for a seven year period when the company began to grow faster. The work force increased to 10 people. R & G entered into the vinyl skirting installation business and contracted several individuals to skirt houses all over the North Texas area.
In their 20th year of operations, Roy made plans to build his own custom warehouse one block away from the Arrow building, and in April 2000, they moved into their current location. Around the same time they established their online presence with their first website, which transformed them from a local business into a national, and international presence. Over the last 19 years R & G has continued to grow, expanding their inventory and becoming one of the most prestigious mobile home supply companies in the nation.
Roy and Georgia have been retired for several years now, but their sons Tim and Darrell continue to run the business.
I love this write-up. It’s great to know about the company’s history, and I’d encourage you to flesh it out a little more with some of more of the detail of their early struggles, and ultimately succeeding.
Thanks for including this.
